Essay: PHOBIA

Fear is a choice. Danger is real.

Do you fear anything?  Is it too scary or creepy? Do your fears control you or can you control your fears? Can you manage your fears? Can you do whatever it takes just to overcome it? Do you let others know about your fears? Have you ever sought help to get rid of it? Have you ever thought if that fear really terrified you? All of us have something to fear. Most of us have something to hide from. Each one of us has something to keep with ourselves.

Phobia. What is Phobia? It is a persistent fear of something that the victim is experiencing. Sometimes it may turn as an extreme fear of an object, specific creatures or situations in the surroundings. We cannot determine one’s fear unless there’s something that triggered it; for example, when someone has a fear with certain insect and the sufferer unintentionally touched it or even just saw it, he/she might panic. Everyone has fear. Some people deny that they don’t have any fear but the truth is they have. Maybe they didn’t ever experience such things that cause them terror but eventually, they will.
Most of the fears are not being afraid with the actual thing or situation but it is being afraid to what might happen next.
Fear is a choice while Danger is real. Yes, it’s true. One way to overcome one’s phobia is to have a mindset that fear is only in our mind. It is only our mind that causes it. We should be realistic and think that fear is only in our mind while the danger is real. The danger is possible while fear is imaginable. The danger is preventable; however, fear is more likely controllable. I know it’s hard to overcome your phobia and to face your fears but it is more difficult to suffer and endure the illogical and irrational agony when having reactions on that fear. Avoiding may be another way; still, you cannot always avoid the stable things in the environment because some phobias are just inevitable.

As I’ve stated, we all have fears but it is not already considered as a phobia. Yes, we fear something just because we don’t want to touch it and we get scared when we see it. It doesn’t mean you have a phobia on that certain matter; furthermore, it should be persistent and extreme fear on that object and can cause great unreasonable feeling and reactions. Learn to control your fears not by avoiding it but by overcoming and facing it. Never let your fear control you and never let it be your phobia. Learn how to manage your fears and you can able to learn to conquer them. Learn to face your fears by doing whatever it takes to surmount them. Let the people close to you know your fears for them to know your situation but beware who you share with because sometimes the people closest to us are the ones capable of causing us the most pain. Learn to seek help from others. Don’t be afraid to accept their helping hands to assist you to escape from your mind full of fears. Learn to think hard if that fear can really cause you terror or it is just your mind frightening you. Be realistic! Remember, fear is a choice while danger is the real one. Again, it’s hard to overcome your phobia and to face your fears but it is more difficult to suffer and endure the illogical and irrational agony when having reactions from that fear.
