This version has additional yaps and edits.] I didn’t go home to Laguna after my graduation in UP Diliman. I stayed in Quezon City and started looking for jobs. I remember applying for a management trainee position at an oil company, which did not work out even after passing various interview stages, an aptitude test, and a random concept presentation before a panel. I used to share that journey on my Twitter account, which was naturally deleted after I missed reactivating it within the allowable time.  I took a social media detox as soon as I became officially unemployed, deactivated my accounts like logging out was not enough, and uninstalled them as well for my sanity. “Summer capital of the Philippines,” ganito binansagan ang lugar na Baguio City. Sa aking mga paglalakbay, isa ang Baguio sa aking mga hindi malilimutan. Tatlong beses na akong nakarating dito: ang unang dalawa (Septyembre 2007 at Mayo 2016) ay kasama ang aking pamilya at ang huli ay field trip sa aming paaralan (Oktubre 2016). “Hindi nakakasawa,” sabi ko sa aking isipan nang makarating muli ako.             Malamig ang klima rito, batid naman ito ng nakakarami; ito na siguro ang pangunahing dahilan ng mga turista sa kanilang pagbisita. Subalit bukod sa malamig na klima, tunay na marami pang maipagmamalaki ang Baguio! Isa na rito ang Burnham Park , ang itinuturing puso ng Baguio. The Historical Origin and Cultural Implications of Bañamos Festival of Los Baños, Laguna

The month is September and as a child, my grandmother would bring me to the town plaza to watch the Balye sa Kalye , the most awaited event in Bañamos festival of our municipality. This goes every year with my grandma until I grew older to watch other events of the festival by myself or with my friends. The festival was just colors and music, an entertainment, and an annual celebration until I gained the consciousness to wonder its origin and curiosity to ask its implications to the local culture, which set the rationale of this paper. Origin             The festival’s name Bañamos, which is a Spanish term meaning “we bathe”, is ascribed to the name of the municipality, Los Baños meaning “the baths”. This is due to the fact that the founding of Los Baños goes back to the Spanish colonization. 5 years in UP

[Read this Facebook post as prologue] Five years in UP Unlike the cliché of ending your college journey on a random day, mine ended with a typhoon—shoes soaked in mud, umbrellas flipping their ribs against the weather, for a 5-minute commencement exercise. Yup! That was our batch, class of 2023. Unlike so many great films, the graduation was so anti-climactic. But I dare say it’s still cinematic. A tragic one, that is. Our journeys may have ended too quickly due to the downpour on the morning of July 30; that personally makes it more memorable, for better or worse.  Of course, I wish my grandmother did not have to suffer from her arthritis while struggling through the mud, and I wish my family had fully experienced a proper graduation program at the premier university of the country. A Movie Review: Sila-Sila (2019)

Too normal yet resounding, personal but all-encompassing. The statement lies in the subtlety of multiple narratives ingrained in each character and their connection that makes up the film. "Nakakapagod ba akong alagaan?" "Kung alam mo lang."   Sila-Sila (The Same People) is a story of several people. They say it's not a ghost story but a ghosting story. Oh, the nuances indeed. The nuances are paradoxically easy to feel. Regardless of your gender or sexual orientation, you would feel the intimacy, the agony, the desire, the silent but loud feelings. Even the awkwardness, tension, the push and pull drive of the impulse, Gab (Gio Gahol) embodies such persona which displays a conflicted mind and heart. In the Philippine context, the history of cinema has just only reached its centennial year with the beginnings from 1917 when Malayan Movies, a film company founded by Jose Nepomuceno and his brother Jesus, was established, to 1919 when the first Filipino feature film was produced – Dalagang Bukid (Country Maiden), produced by the same company. In spite of having a comprehensive history of Philippine cinema yet to be written, the industry has proven to develop and mature with regards to filmmaking style, form, and content for it to have the so-called ‘golden age’. This controversial movie just opened today in the cinemas and if you haven't heard it yet - netizens are calling to boycott the film. Why is that? If you haven't seen it on your social media - It all started when the trailer of the said movie was released just a few weeks ago - reliving the  CHIONG CASE MURDER . It has also remembered a 2011 documentary that was recognized internationally and won numerous awards called  Give Up Tomorrow  (click the link to see the movie while it is still available for public viewing), which was also created for the same celebrated (mis)trial of the century.  If you plan to watch Jacqueline Comes Home, you must watch Give Up Tomorrow first.  That's what I have seen in my social media and quite enough, it bothered me and I know it did to you too. Hudyat ito ng pag-aresto sa mga nahuli sa aktong gumagamit ng droga. Lumapit si Indigo sa lalaki at kanyang pinosasan ang mga kamay, ganon din ang ginawa ng ibang pulis sa ibang nahuli na pawang walang bahid ng anuman kadungisan.
